The Mystery of Stradivari
Studies and Legends on Antonio Stradivari from 1872 to 1937
- Edited by Luca Bastiani
- Bastiani Toto Collection
A Journey into the Birth of the Myth
The Mystery of Stradivari is a unique work, offering a fascinating journey into the historical and cultural construction of the myth of Antonio Stradivari. Through a selection of photographic excerpts from period documentsโarticles, essays, publications, catalogs, and rare materialsโthe volume shows how the celebrated Cremonese violin maker became, between 1872 and 1937, an icon of Italian music and cultural identity.
The project originates from the private collection of Luca Bastiani, a violin maker and scholar of the history of violin making, and was subsequently enriched thanks to the collaboration with Francesco Toto, also a violin maker. From this partnership was born the Bastiani Toto Collection, a rare and coherent documentary collection, representing a unique testimony, the fruit of years of research, passion, and philological care.
