Benzoin Resin, scientific name: Styrax benzoin Dryander or Stirax benzoides Craib of the family Styracaceae. From fragrant trees or shrubs the Policarpal, with flowers and peep umbrella or a drupe fruit, is extracted a fragrant oil used in perfumery. The resin, also known as Benzoin gum, is very soluble in ethyl alcohol. This is a solution used as additive to shellac, which obtains a higher gloss and improves the smoothness in the coating.
