Manila Copal Gum comes in resinous masses of various sizes, with wrinkled surfaces of a more or less dark color and has a melting point between 103°C and 120°C. It is soluble in alcohol and insoluble in common solvents. Copal Manila gum is soluble in alcohol with an alcohol content higher than 94°. After pyrogenation the Manila gum gives a substance soluble in alcohol and allows the addition of only small amounts of oil. The solution obtained is mixed with other resins and varnishes for the preparation of adhesives, mastics, varnishes for wood and as an antiquing agent for frames, furniture, etc.
