Lefranc & Bourgeois Essence d'Aspic

The Lefranc & Bourgeois oil of spike lavender or aspic essence is obtained from the distillation of lavender. Its use gives the colors a greasy paste thanks to its slow volatility. It smells like lavender. In violin making it is used by adding a few drops to the varnish, both alcohol and oil, which provides good flow and brush ability. Oil of spike lavender is also used as a diluent for rosinates.
