Natural Spike Oil (Lavandula latifolia)
Thin your oils, paint washes and slow setting times with our Natural Spike Oil. Distilled from lavender, it’s great for glazes and preliminary sketches. Unlike other solvents, it promotes oxidation, helping you varnish precise, transparent strokes. Slower setting than turpentine and mineral spirits, it’s powerful in small quantities and a good alternative to conventional solvents. In violin making it is used by adding a few drops to the varnish, both alcohol and oil, which provides good flow and brush ability. Oil of spike lavender is also used as a diluent for rosinates.
Sold in a glass bottle with a dropper straw.
