The Eugene Holtier Violin Varnish System is comprised of Gold Color Wood Primer; Reflective Rosin Ground; Brown and Clear Varnish; and catalyst. We offer the System at a discounted price over sum of individually priced items. The Eugene Holtier Varnish System produces a finish rich in color and very transparent. Only a few coats of brown are needed for a rich color. The clear varnish can be mixed to change the intensity or can be used as a final coat. If desired, pigments or oil painting colors can be used with Eugene Holtier varnish. Drying requires 3-4 hours in intense sun or overnight in the UV box. Bottles contain: Primer 125 ml, Rosin Ground 50 ml, Clear Varnish 25 or 50 ml, Brown Varnish 25 or 50 ml, Catalyst 15 ml.

Eugene Holtier Gold Color Wood Primer
Gold Color Wood Primer treats the wood of a musical instrument prior to ground and varnish application. The more attractive this layer, the more effective any varnish will be in enhancing the natural beauty of the wood. The 125 ml bottle of Gold Color Wood Primer will do 3 violins.
Eugene Holtier Reflective Rosin Ground
Reflective Rosin Ground helps the wood reflection of a musical instrument after the ground and prior to varnish application. The more attractive this layer, the more effective any varnish will be in enhancing the natural beauty of the wood. This 50 ml bottle of Reflective Rosin Ground will do 3 violins.
Eugene Holtier Varnishes – Clear and Brown
Eugene Holtier Varnishes, made from finest colophony and cold pressed linseed oil (50-50 by weight), is rich in color and transparent. This varnish contains no solvents, catalysts or pigments. It is extremely transparent yet rich in color. The varnish is medium thick but can be easily spread and is not tacky. The brown color is very intense and only a few coats are needed for a rich color. The clear varnish can be mixed to change the intensity or can be used as a final coat. If desired, pigments or oil painting colors can be used with Eugene Holtier varnish. Drying requires 3-4 hours in intense sun or overnight in the UV box. Available in brown and clear in bottle contains 25 or 50 ml of varnish. One 50 ml bottle will varnish 4-5 violins or 1 cello. One bottle will varnish 2-3 violins.
Eugene Holtier Catalyst
A catalyst is used to hasten curing of varnish. The Catalyst may be needed if your UV box is weak or you do not have intense sun. We recommend using our catalyst, which dries uniformly. Experiment with how much catalyst you add, usually a few drops is enough. Too much catalyst can compromise the varnish. Bottle contains 15 ml of Catalyst.
About the Varnish Products
The Eugene Holtier Violin Varnish System was developed after of hundreds and hundreds of hours of experimentation and formulation of the products. The classical Italian finishes must had been achieved from relatively simple ingredients, and the System Eugene adheres to this concept. The System is comprised of 5 products: Gold Color Wood Primer; Reflective Rosin Ground; Brown Varnish, Clear Varnish; and a Catalyst (optional). The Gold Color Wood Primer and Reflective Rosin Ground are a way to prepare and treat the wood of a musical instrument prior to application of varnish. The more attractive this layer, the more effective any varnish will be in enhancing the natural beauty of the wood. The Reflective Rosin Ground is a clear liquid which has very low viscosity and brushes easily. Eugene Holtier Brown and Clear Varnishes are made from finest colophony and cold pressed linseed oil (50-50 by weight). This varnish contains no solvents, catalysts, or pigments. It is extremely transparent yet rich in color. The varnish is medium thick but can be easily spread and is not tacky. The brown color is very intense and only a few coats are needed for a rich color. The clear varnish can be mixed to change the intensity or can be used as a final coat. If desired, pigments or oil painting colors can be used with Eugene Holtier varnish. Drying requires UV for 3-4 hours in intense sun or overnight in the UV box. If you do not have strong UV box or strong sunlight, the catalyst may be needed to help cure the varnish.
