Paraffin has a thousand uses but in lutherie it is mainly used to isolate the cork of the chinrests to prevent them from sticking to the fresh varnish and to impregnate the peg shafts by applying it superficially and then pulling it by hand or with a grinder with a warm cloth to let it penetrate into the wood, close the pores and polish the wood.
