This compass was "designed" by Simone Fernando Sacconi to trace the level contours during the shaping of the back and the belly on violins, violas and cellos.
We have made it replicate faithful to its essentiality. A normal pencil is inserted into the appropriate housing and, using the screw opening of the compass, the height is adjusted and then the tool gently slides all around the instrument, thus marking level contours.
At the final shaping the arching should be regular in relation to the line of the outline, and symmetrical between the right and left halves.
Useful depth about 17cm
