Old Wood Dust Cloth
Old Wood Dust Cloth
DUST CLOTH
This cloth is especially effective in applications requiring a pristine surface, such as luthiery, for preparing string instruments like violins, violas, and cellos before applying varnishes or finishes.
It removes fine dust particles and contaminants that can compromise the quality of the varnish coat. It ensures a smooth, clean surface, enhancing the adhesion and appearance of subsequent varnish layers.
Application Guidelines
The dust cloth is disposable, but its lifespan is hard to calculate as it depends on usage. It is not difficult to identify it is saturated during use, both visually and by touch. From OW experience, it lasts quite a while. Remember, it is not a cleaning cloth and should not be used to remove sanding residue. It should be used before varnishing, on a clean surface if sanding has been done, to remove as much dust as possible from the surface. It can also be used on tools, brushes, and surrounding areas. This also helps dissipate static electricity. But OW emphasize, it is not a cleaning rag. It is also important not to apply pressure, just slide the cloth over the surface to be cleaned.
These are short, general indications. For more detailed instructions, please download the Technical Data Sheet available for this product.
- Use clean hands or gloves to handle the Dust Cloth to avoid transferring oils or dirt. Remove the Dust Cloth from its packaging before use to preserve its tackiness. Hold the cloth loosely, avoiding compressing it, which could reduce its effectiveness.
- Gently wipe the surface in a single direction, allowing the tacky cloth to pick up dust and particles. Avoid circular motions to prevent particles from re-depositing.
- Frequently inspect the cloth for dirt accumulation. Refold or use a new section of the cloth as necessary to maintain optimal cleaning efficiency.
Cremona Tools recommends using a cloth every 1 max 3 instruments for maximum effectiveness. Obviously it depends on if and how much you sand and the more or less dusty environment in which you varnish.
