Refractive Ground Old Yellow

Refractive Grounds are oil-based, highly transparent grounds that enhance the beauty of the wood, creating a depth effect and providing the wood with a permanent “moist effect”. These grounds have been specially designed for stringed wood instruments and are compatible with oil varnishes.

Its optimum penetration in the wood’s superficial layer avoids the fibres’ saturation, achieving an incomparable luminosity depth.

Before use, it is recommended to test on pieces or parts of wood similar to those of the instrument to be treated to predict the colour tone that can be achieved in each case.

Application Guidelines

These are short, general indications. For more detailed instructions, please download the Technical Data Sheet available for this product.

  1. Refractive Grounds must be well and evenly spread to subserve their penetration into the pores. They are ready-for-use products, so there is no need to dilute them. However, if necessary, they can be diluted. You must test its compatibility with any solvent used, and do not dilute the whole product, but the proportion you will immediately use.
  2. Apply thin layers. Typically, thin-film applications need about 10 hours under UV light to ensure complete drying. Allow 12-24 hours to pass before applying the next coat.
  3. Final sanding is recommended before varnishing, with intensity depending on the obtained result.

Complete drying of each layer is essential to guarantee the quality and durability of the final coating and to avoid future surface defects.
